canon 5dmk2 review
i recently invested into a Canon 5dmk2 and wow! what took so long for me to pull the trigger on it? build quality is great. it has a solid feel to it. hand grip is sweet but i still need to add a Canon BG-E6 vertical grip to it, i dont like it when my pinkie goes under the body of the camera.
image quality is SHARP! in my opinion, i think it’s a whole lot better than the mk1. the shutter sound is pretty quiet, which is nice.
some cool features about the camera:
- it takes the same battery as the Canon 7d, LP-E6 which is handy
- auto/manual audio control for video
- record button is easier to access than the 7d, for me.

Philadelphia – Music Photographer – Lickety Split
Lickety Split, a place where musicians come and share their talent behind a microphone. i had the pleasure of supporting a friend of mine, Jason Min, again. he always seems to amaze me with his talent, using his guitar, pedals and voice. The venue is dark, small and the red spot lights dont help at all. i was deciding which camera to take to the show but decided to take my 5dmk1 and 50 f1.4

i just purchased the Canon 17-40 f4L lens. i took it to church last night to test it out and i am loving it. the image quality on this lens is top notch, it’s an L. weather sealed, fast and quiet focusing and super light weight, what more could you want in a lens?
im really excited to use this lens once the weather gets warmer so i can shoot with this outdoors.
what’s in my bag?
recently, people have been asking me what cameras and lenses i use. so, here is a list and short review of what i mainly play with.
here we go.
camera bodies
7d – i recently purchased one of Canon’s newest camera. the 7d. it’s a beast. the body grip is very nice. fits right in my hand. battery life (canon LP-E6) is amazing. of course i had to get the extra battery grip (bg-e7). 8 frames per second is something i am enjoying a little too much. cant wait until the weather gets warmer so i can test it out for outdoor sports.
5d mk1 w/bg-e4 grip. full frame sensor and awesome low light image quality is why i love this camera. oh, and the fact that my wife bought it for me
.
glass
24-70 f2.8L - it’s fast and has a great range. my favorite lens to shoot with at weddings. image quality is sharp and beautiful. rarely comes off the camera.
70-200 f2.8 (non IS) – recently upgraded from the f4 (non IS) and haven’t looked back. again, image quality is sharp. focusing is quiet and fast. one downside, bit heavy to carry around. bokeh at 200 mm is very creamy
50mm f1.4 - one of sharpest lenses i have shot with. it’s fast, great for low light and very affordable.
15mm f2.8 fisheye - this is a fun lens to use. you don’t want to overuse this lens. it’s a great distortion lens and surprisingly, it’s pretty sharp. a bit loud when focusing, has a buzzing sound.
lighting
canon 580 exII - great flash! white card is very useful when you dont have something to bounce your flash off of.
canon 430 ex (2) - decent back up flash that i keep just incase my 580 ex II to were break. i used to use them when firing into umbrellas for portraits, using a canon st-e2.
white lightning zap 1000 - they’re beautiful. decently priced. very easy to use and set up quickly. lighting is great.
misc
pocketwizard transceivers – does wonders. very reliable. uses very little battery too.
pocketwizard mini TT1 – review to come.
quantum turbo battery pack – it’s a little heavy but it hasn’t failed me yet. great source of power for my flash!
manfroto 1004 BAC 12ft light stands – these stands are awesome. i am in love with the air cushioned sections. legs spread out to 42″.
that’s pretty much it. feel free to ask me any questions that you might have about some that i have listed. hopefully, i’ll be of some help.
